I'm new to this site and have been an Astroboy fan since the early 60's. Unfortunatly, I've been out of the loop since then also. It's great to have found this site and download the original theme song and caught up with Astro's contemporary development.

So, straight up here is what I'm looking for: Access to the 1960's episodes!

Anyone out there able to provide the information I'm looking for?

My son is now the age I was when I first experienced Astroboy and I would love to be able to spend some time watching these with him and share the experience.

Many thanks in advance,

JohnB

MadMan has the rights to Astroboy 60's here in Australia. THere is no relese date yet, but if their treatment is anything like that of the recent release of the 80's series it will be worth the wait. :D
three and a half years.. for what?

Shawne Kleckner, CEO of The Right Stuf, sells 6 packs of the 60s on VHS tapes via e-Bay. I believe the auctions start on Sunday night, at which time you will be best able to use the "buy now" feature. There are three available: episodes 1-6, 7-12, and 30th anniversary 1-5 + the Lost episode and one other episode. His eBay id is 'gleckner'. I have bought all 3 and am very satisfied. Be aware that the video quality varies on these, as they are restored for various sources. All the stuff that Mushi studios had sent to NBC was destroyed when Mushi (in bankruptcy) could not afford to have them shipped back to Japan. Kleckner has taken it upon himself to restore the English dubbed 100 or so episodes. But the sources are usually personal collections, and this was way before VHS, so they are few and far between.

Here's what is availible in the U.S. so far:
http://www.rightstuf.com/1-800-338-6827/ca...tegory/4/1116/0
I have all 18 tapes and that's only 36 eps. There were 104 eps. translated out of the nearly 200 Japanese eps. Unfortunatly there's no dvds in the U.S. so far, but Austrailia is coming out with the American dub probably early next year. The entire uncut 193 episode Japanese version is availible on dvd here:

Unfortunaly there are no subs and you'll need a region free dvd player. I have one, and the dvds are worth the money. You get to see what American censors didn't want you to see, such as episode 42 where Astro goes undercover disguised as a human boy and gets himself injected with an illegal drug. You can also read this story in the Dark Horse Astro Boy manga(comic) series, that's on sale now at comic and book stores.

I think I can help.

It was in episode 193 of the original 60's anime series, and it was never dubed or subed in English. I haven't seen it yet but I plan to buy it. It's available on dvd box set 6, here:
http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/search.html?curre...=AC_astro%20boy

I don't think he actually died, but here's what I read happened according to the Astro manga(comics):
He took a bomb from Earth to throw into the sun, but he never came back. :(
This made a lot of sad fans flood Osamu Tezuka with letters asking what happened to Astro and if he could do a story where Astro comes back, so he thought up a sequal in '67 for a newspaper comic strip, but he abandon the idea in favor of an original story called Astro Boy Tales.

Then in the 1970's he finally decided to make a manga sequal to the last 60's anime episode. It was to be a pilot for a possible new tv series, in which aliens in the future find Astro adrift in space, damaged from the explosion that the bomb caused. They fix Astro and modify him, adding a time dial on his forhead, making him a living time machine. They also give him some black chest armor. Unfortunatly he has amnesia, so he doesn't know which time period to visit to find his home, so he travels through time looking for home. Unfortunatly the series was never finished, so I guess he never finds home, but at least he's alive. The first story to this series is available in the Astro manga vol. 22. There's another story in that vol. that makes reference to Astro trying to get home titled Astro 2. He manages to send a message to Dr. Elefin that he's trying to find home and hopes to return soon. ;)

Well, there you are, I hope this was some help.

Look. Anyone who can help me out please do. I need to know how Astro Boy died or if he died at all. Any info or response would be great! thanks.
rr_k84@hotmail.com for a response!

Get manga volume #22. It has several stories that take up Atom's story where the 60s anime left it. After his close encounter with Mr. Sun, Atom drifted through space until aliens found & repaired him. Tezuka prefaces Astro Returns with a few words about that final episode. Apparently, the Sun was freaking out, & the only way to save Earth was to carry a certain device into the Sun. Our hero was the only one who could do the job. But, not to fret, Tezuka was swamped with letters of protest after that final episode, so--

Just read #22, & you will know better than I can tell you.
