Hi. Does anyone know if the new series goes into detail about what really happened to Tobio? In the english version I don't think they tell us at all. The closest I can think of is in the Japanese first episode "Power Up!", when magnemite belly-flops down onto Atom, Atom has a flashback of a large truck bearing down on him. (Set a shiver down my spine the first time I saw that! :p h34r: )

So does the new series reveal what happened or are we supposed to just guess for ourselves? Of course WE have a pretty good idea, Tobio got ticked off that Doc Tenma decided to work instead of play a few times too many, stole the car to go himself to wherever, and got T-boned (to say the least) by a dump truck. :( That's pretty much the traditional version of what happens at least.

I like how the new series started out, gradually revealing Astro's origin over several episodes, I just noticed they never (not that I remember, it's been a long while since the english version's been on) said what happened to Tobio. Maybe this is revealed only at the very end?

In the Japanese version, more is unveiled during the 2 Atlas episodes, a good part being removed in the English version. The last details are revealed in the last episode. No idea in the English version, I never seen any English episodes past episode 20 :(
The real sign that someone has become a fanatic is that he completely loses his sense of humor about some important facet of his life. When humor goes, it means he's lost his perspective.

Ah, I figured they would've cut an imprtant bit out of the 2 main Atlas episodes (Atlas does come back in a later episode but I was disappointed :( ). I'm keeping my fingers crossed that VRAK-tv will show the series right to the end (which I think should be within the week or so) and I'll be able to see this bit in the last episode you mention.

Which episode is 20? The furthest english episode I got was the Microbears episode on YTV before they dropped the series. (VRAK seems to be a Quebecois YTV, btw) It also looks like the french version that VRAK is showing is exactly the same as the english version, so when that last ep shows I'll let you know (except I haven't seen any jap episodes past the Rainbow Canyon  because there's no more with subtitles).

I'd download the 2 atlas eps from anapan's site but my computer is to old to play them (It's a Pentium II). So unless they get converted to 450k realvideo or a lower quality mpeg I won't be able to see them until I have a chance to view them on a more powerful 'puter.

Hi Jarvic,

In the last episode of the Japanese version of the new series, episode 50 I think, you see the car crash that kills Tobio in a flash back, and you see the tragic rejection of Astro as Tobio's replacement, by Tenma shuting down Astro with a horrible electronic neck ring cringe, cringe. :o :( A real heartbreak. Most of us couldn't forgive Tenma for doing such a thing, but Astro did, because he's an angle. :)

That neck ring reminds me of similar devices on Lost in Space & Star Trek. Dr. Smith deserved his, but neither Capt. Kirk nor Atom were deserving of theirs. B)

Astro's room and the interior of the car is being displayed on LCD wallpaper.
And the Astor Boynton subroutines are activated.

Tobio's story goes like this:
It was Tobio's birthday so his father took him to his lab to give presents for his birthday which he made.
Tobio got a hovering bike or whatever it is called and a new nanny robot(one like Robita). Tobio asked what will
become of his old nanny robot and his father told him that they will just dump it because it is already an old model and
his father showed him how they incinerate old robots. TObio wasn't happy about what his father did and told him off that
if somebody or something gets useless to him, he will just dump them. His father wasn't spending time with him lately so he
thought that he was useless to his father because was just ignored and left at their house all day. Tobio ran off with his
hovering bike and was tragically killed while on a tubular highway..... :(
