Some sad news

Hey all,

I don't want to down anyone, but I saw some depressing news at this site:

It's a month old, but I just now noticed it. It's so sad.
I happen to like Cyborg 009 and Kikider too. This all means to me that retro doesn't sell anymore, and all the classics might be forgoten.

So I've decided to go ahead and buy the new English dub dvd of the current series, even if the dub sucks, because if I don't, they might not release or make more Astro, the 60's and 80's too, in America that is. I guess my country is too angry for Astro now. But not me, I will always love Astro.

My fellow Americans, Please support Astro and buy the new dvd. If it sells well, he might be considered popular enough for more dvd releases and more tv apperences. If not, he'll die. Please help keep him alive.

Dont worry.Im a girl from Spain who is Atom fan Here there are some Atom fans too who loves Tezuka´s creations.
Personally I prefer the AstroBoy Tezuka original manga version than new Atom 2003 adventures.The new anime have wonderful episodes(I love the firts episode,Atom vs Atlas and the last 50 very good drawed) but also a lot of bored episodes with bad quality of animation.
I think children of this generation prefers figthing anime like Naruto or Dragon Ball instead of Astro Boy and the Tezukas message. :angry: :angry:

Don't forget that before something is published in Europe, it goes through America. If it does not sell well there, then Europe will never see it :angry: Sometimes I wonder if the world distribution of audio/video is not bogus.:huh:
Well, honestly, that's not exactly the case since we saw a few 2000 Astroboy episodes. However in France it seems they stopped 2 weeks ago around episode 30 Too long for hollidays I'm afraid

yes In europe we received all anime,movies etc after USA ,anyway I am buying the Korean dvds version released by Columbia and subtitles in english ,language japanese and dvd covers like the original versions.

Yeah, I'm glad they're releasing the 2003-04 Astro series in a complete box set here in the U.S. Rhino only released half of the Kimba the White Lion series in a box set and it probably didn't sell well, 'cause it's already out of print, and I bet they don't release the rest of the series. Kimba seems like a forgoten character in the U.S.

I'm glad that Japan, Asia, and Europe still likes Astro and Tezuka's other stuff. Think what would happen if everyone in Japan, Asia and the rest of the world quit liking Astro and Tezuka, Tezuka Prod. would go broke and that would be the end of a legend. He may be dead, but his spirit lives on for now. Let's hope Tezuka Prod. never dies.

I know I'm rambeling now, but that news hit close to home, it means to me that our type of anime's days are numbered. It would be a wonder now if they go ahead and make that Astro movie. There is hope though, first there was A.I., which was basically the Astro story, then there was I Robot, now there's a new movie with Robin Williams called Robots. I see a trend in the robot theme, so now is the time to release an Astro movie.

The problem with retro anime is that it's not geared towards merchandising. Look at the successes of the past few years - Pokemon, Beyblade, Duel Masters, CardCaptors, Yu-Gi-Oh!, etc. The anime itself is basically built around a product that can be sold.

If Astro started fighting with trading cards or spinning tops, the TV execs would love it. That's where the money is. All they care about is money and ratings, not entertainment or quality or art, because they're running a business. If something of quality gets high ratings, then it's a happy coincidence for us. If something crap gets high ratings, we'll continue to see an endess stream of reality TV shows.

No, not always. A lot of manga are published in Europe first before heading to the states, or some series are specific to Europe.

Hi Ochanomizu,

Nice to here from you again. I think you told me once about the Princess Knight mangas being popular in Spain. If so, then Tezuka is way more popular in Spain, than in the U.S. I had to import an English language version of Princess Knight from Japan, because no store I know of here would carry it.

Maybe someday Tezuka will make a big comeback in America. Till then, I can always order from Japan.
