Yeah, most of the names were different but my memories are screwed up. I remember Sarah as Nina... :wacko:

I watched the ones on DVD and know why it was different. The Canadian one cut scenes. Like a lot, in an episode with that romeo robot the Canadian version never had any deaths.

The Australian ones were better except for the voice acting which was much worse...much worse...

Is it just me or there was never a part 1 in the worlds' greatest robots for Canada? I always saw the second part but never saw any of the first part. I assume they just cut the first part cause they don't show the destruction of any of the robots. The end was funny. Commentur of whatever just transforms into Commentur 2 (which was really borra) and Astro destroys him. (worst explination ever, even when I was a kid I was like what the hell?) B)

I definately saw the first part of the Robot tournament in the Canadian version too.

His name in Japanese is Burakku Rukkusu, or Black Looks.

Is it the original name? Obviously it is the "Japanesed" one, but that does not prevent it from being the original though... [/b][/quote]
It's the Romaji of the 80s episode name, straight from the Katakana Japanese characters.

None of the alternate names are familiar. I am sure Dr. Leopold was named Dr. Leopold and same with Sultan, in the Canadian version too. Maybe those are FRENCH Canadian names.

They could be. Would the French Canadian be different from the French? Because I have a different list of names translated from the French:

Dr Elefun = Professor Caudrine
Daddy Walrus = Mr Morse
Uran = Uranie
Livian = Vivian
Skunk = Sirius
Alvin = Mathias (lol - the German bully?)
Inspector Gumshoe - Inspector L'Labrosse
Jump = Feather

I have been waiting and searching endlessly for the Canadian dub. As mentioned above, Uran was called Sarah, it was professor Peabody, etc. There was the cool prologue intro, and of course the thing at the end where you had to spot the whatever dealy that I could never ever get. It was on right before and sometimes right after the Adventures of Tintin (also awesome) on MITV (Global) between 7 and 8am Atlantic Time. Right before school... sweet...

The voices were awesome. Sort of awesome in the same way the Streamline dub of Akira is awesome. Watching non-Canadian (i.e. DVD or video) versions just ain't the same.

I need to get my fix. I don't know where to start on this one. I would gladly snap up a DVD if it ever became available, but in the meantime, if anyone has them on video, we need them ripped and made into torrents ASAP!!! I volunteer my services in any way if anyone wants to get this ball rolling.

The non-Canadian fans deserve to see how great this dub was. Scour the Global vaults! This version of Astro is the reason why there are so many Canadians that:
1) Love robots
2) Are VERY familiar with Astro iconography (as opposed to "What is that guys name again???) Everybody recognizes him...
3) Love watching robots beat the crap out of each other

Buh... need Canadian Astro...

Sorry I'm too lazy to register, but I'm also curious if any other Canadians remember watching these cartoons back in the day?

The Mighty Hercules
Rocket Robin Hood
The Wizard of Oz (Ozu no mahôtsukai)

Things I remember about Hercules

Iron in his thighs,

virtue .. ?

With the strength of 10 ordinary men,

the mighty Hercules

Herc shooting an arrow into the sun.

"What's up Herc? What's up?"

I don't know if that's right but that's what I remember.

Some other stuff:

Hercules training a young guy in the show who does bicep curls with a piece of wood.

Helena being beyond hot.

Daedalus being dragged alongside a mountain on his butt.

Actually, I remember a good amount of stuff from that show. I remeber it being silly at the time but also remembering it being fun. There were some good ideas and imagination in this show.

Rocket Robin Hood? Is that the show that was rescently shown on Teletoon?

The Wizard of Oz -- Faintly. I think it was on in the early morning. My friend liked it when he was young.

I recall that H was not naturally super strong, but only when he wore his special ring. He put it on, & held his hand high, it was struck by lightning, & there was a particular theme that played during this scene.

Another guy who was 'energized' was Sinbad the sailor. He pulled his belt tight,

with all his might,

A mighty sailor he'll be,

a mighty sailor is he! :D

Fearless Fly was also empowered by his glasses, of all things!

In the live-action world, I remember a very short-lived show called Mr. Terrific. It seems the scientists developed a super pill, that when swallowed, gave the guy super strength. Too bad it only worked with Stanley Bemish, who was quite squeamish, or something like that. He took off his windbreaker, revered it, put it on, it was silver like the Gemeni space suits. He put his hands in his puckets (of the jacket), flapped his armsm and flew. I think the pill's affects only lasted a few minutes though. :lol:
