No Tom Bombadill means no Old Man Willow. <_< Although having Frodo eaten by a tree might be a little too much.
When I saw The Fellowship of The Ring the first time, there was this old couple in the row in front of me. They looked about 80. Probably grew up with Tolkien or something. Anyway, when the tentacle monster ate Bill the pony at Moria Gate they totally freaked out.
