Attention Washington, D.C. metro area Astro fans. I just joined a new anime club here in D. C. that started in January of this year. I'm member no. 30. I post at their forum as Cobalto(Astro's older brother, known as Jetto in the English dub). So if any of you live in the Metro area, come on and join. They meet almost every Saturday in Chinatown, right near the metro station. Here's the link:

Attention Washington D.C. area Astro fans. DO NOT JOIN THE DC ANIME CLUB!
I just met with them today and I found out that they have a stupid rule: They don't ever show anime that has been seen on American tv. The presedent said "What would be the point"? <_< Uhm, because it's good, duh. That means no Astro could ever be shown there, because all 3 versions have been shown in the U.S. As much as the the president and vice president praised my taste in Tezuka and other classic anime of his generation, they wouldn't show them.

It turns out that the DC anime club is an affiliate of the ADV anime company, which has a anime satelite network and releases New Type Magazine, so the club's main purpose is to promote new anime so they can sell it better in America. So evan though the website said to bring your own anime(which I did), they wouldn't evan show Black Jack, which hasn't been seen on American tv, to my knowledge.

I just don't like having a company chose the anime to show me. I thought it was going to be a group of friends getting together to share each others anime, which is what a club should be. But no, it was just promotional dvds that a ADV sent them. Lame! <_<
They were good, but I don't want to be limited to them.

Astro fans in the D.C. metro area unite!, to form our own anime club, to show Tezuka and related stuff. Who cares whether it's old, new or has been shown on tv. It's good and needs to be exposed more. ;)

I nominate Atoman for President!

Still, I can see that their goal is one we ought to share. Whether it is ADV or any other company behind it, I want to see stuff & understand the language either spoken or subtitled. Did you say that this club has no interest in old stuff? If so, there is no hope it would help promote interest in other Tezuka productions, such as Princess Knight. That would be a shame. :(

Actually, there goal is not to show anime in the original Japanese, in fact the pres. opted to show it in English dubs when availible, lame. <_< There real goal is just to promote the stuff ADV sends them, it's company policy that no old anime can be shown. They're just shills for the company, in fact the presidents post name is animepimp. They're also shills for Miyazaki or Studio Gibli. They were promoting his latest film. Miyazaki is good, but he's allied with Micheal Eisner, the anti-Tezuka guy. I can't participate in a "club" that hurts Tezuka Productions, by siding with Eisner and not allowing Tezuka's anime to be shown.

I thought it was going to be a group of friends sharing their anime together, but no. Us members had no say in what was shown and the club pres. was rude to the members. Some evan got up and left in disgust, I should have to. :( Untill they change their company policy and let me show Astro, I'll never go back.
Astro fans: Boicott clubs like this.

In that case, I see why you are dissatisfied.
