She said she was 21 in "The Time Machine", and apparently she is a nurse, though she seemed to care more about the jewels than assisting the doctor!

Here is the oh! so unexpected question  : why does she look like a little girl?

It could hardly have been more obscure in this Astro episode. Talk about leaving the viewer in the dark! They shouldn't have mention those facts at all if they didn't care to explain. Viewers like me would have assumed she was the doctor's daughter and it wouldn't have been in contradiction with others Tezuka series anyway.

I found these comments on a web site somewhere ages ago:

Among the usual casts of this series is Black Jack himself and his trusty daughter, Pooi Pooi (Chinese Translated) who seems a bit too mature for her age. Yet the mystery still remains, who is she actually? And if she's Black Jack's daughter, who's the mother?

His only companion is a 'girl' named Pinnoko, who appears to be a child, but is really much older. She was a Teratogenous Cystoma, a twin which developed within her sister's body. Blackjack removed Pinnoko, and developed a prostetic body for her to use.

Thank you very much. I would never have guessed anything like that!

The 2 volume "Blackjack" manga has it in volume 1, in a story by that title (Teratogenous Cystoma).

I love it when someone sees Pinoko and Black Jack together and says something like: "What a cute daughter you have." Then Pinoko gets mad and says "I'm his wife." in her cute baby talk lisp.

'Monster' actually meant a deformed human, such as a hunchback. Tennyson's Idylls of the King has a line in it indicating that such people were ridiculed, and even spat upon. The law did not protect them from this. They were ineligible to inherit titles or property. Since 'Frankenstein,' 'monster' has been inappropriately applied to varous non-human creatures, such as 'Godzilla,' "the Deadly Mantis," 'Them,' & my newest acquisition from Netflx, "Attack of the Crab Monsters." :wahah:

How could I have forgotten to answer this question?

Pinoko was a twin who was actually forming within her sister's body. However, she was growing very slowly. When her sister was fully grown, Pinoko was large enough to be detected; however, she was no more than a mass of vital organs, lacking a body. BJ removed her (there was a bit more to it than this), put her into an artificial body, and tried to present her to her sister, who only knew that a tumor had been removed from her. She rejected Pinoko, & BJ kept her as his own.

Regarding her age: while she has both the appearance and the innocence of a little girl, she does know things from the time she was in her sister. Thus, she makes comments about adult love, but also is unaware that she has been abducted (see the 7 disc series).
