I have a question... is it okay to write "you aren't"? Should I have written "you're not" instead? Is there a rule in this case?

AFAIK, there's no rule and both are correct.

Thanks! :)

Aaaaah, I got another idea that I'm refraining hard from posting! :wahah: I wouldn't be surprised if somebody had a similar idea... with a much better caption! ;)

I don't think anyone will mind. It's pretty quiet around here.
Okay. :) I'm so stupid, instead of making the screen transparent and putting the picture in the layer below it, I was doing the opposite! <_< Doing it the right way makes it the easiest pic ever to work with! :P So here is my other attempt:

Hehe! What do you think Astro would think if he browsed through this forum? I think he'd have a good sense of humor and would laugh with us! :D

It would be non-stop giggling. They'd have to evacuate the room because the kid would be crying a flood of water from laughing too hard. :D

Since I am the closest thing this forum has to mister language person, I will comment.

When I began improving my grammar (lest I be required to take a speech course), I became aware of other people's errors. As I was zealous of my newfound interest, I began correcting them. My mother really hated having her grammar corrected by her son, & I immediately realized I had a new way to irritate her. But other people were often very offended at being corrected, especailly in public. But I really was POed at the way they spoke. Well, it took a feew years to cool off, but now I can both use formal grammar and remain unoffended at others' colloquial speach.

Formal grammar frowns at the use of contractions, & when I write an essay for college, I use this style. But it is somewhat awkward to use in speach. Both ways you have written this fragment employ contractions, but "You are not" if put colloqually, can also be written "you ain't." To those who might object, I am certain I could find more than a few errors in their own grammar, so they should not point at others' faults. Sometime conciseness is more important that correctness. :D

My English improved a lot and is still improving from reading/writing on English forums. :D It's cool to think that I entertain myself and do something useful at the same time! :P However, I'm aware that people tend to use colloquial speech, just like I do on French forums. So for now, I'm seeking to improve my colloquial English. I wish I was able to write anything formal properly too, but I'm not expecting to learn that from Internet forums, so I'm settling for a more modest goal! :)

If you are annoyed by anything I write, or if you just happen to notice a mistake, feel free to correct me. Not only you wouldn't offend me, but I'd welcome your corrections as it would help me to improve a lost faster. :) I guess it would also make me less annoying to read as well! ;)

Thank you very much for your answer.

For not having understood people didn't like to be corrected, I suffered a lot in my youth. Because syntax and grammar is strongly anchored in my mind (especially my native language), hearing other people do mistakes "scorched" my hears. I am not talking about colloquial language, but about bad, very bad mistakes. My brother one day went mad at me because of what he thought to be plain arrogance, my parents asked me to "stop correcting my grand-father who had not had the chance to go to school", etc... I finally stopped because people went mad at my "arrogance" ( what was that anyway? I didn't know at that moment  ).

Anyway, at the beginning I was coming here because I have a pic to post ;)

Oh, it reminds me when I lost half of a play because of those stupid grandmas who were competing in a "I remember what the punch was" game right behind me! GRRRRRRR! (I somehow found a polite way to tell them to shut up during the interval.)

But when I saw your pic, I expected the caption to be the other way around!

Astro: Why? All they need to do is to send a robot to break the icebergs!

Thanks, that's a good idea! I think this is a good pic to work with, so I hope there will be many entries. :)

Looks like I missed a good one :D

But I think there is even better:
Spectator: It will sink before the end I tell' ya!
Astro: Why? All they need to do is to send a robot to break the icebergs!
Spectator: There wasn't robots at that time.
Astro: I see... but what if a robot is sent there using a time machine?
Spectator: Time machines don't exist my boy.
Astro: But there are no known physical laws both at gravitational and quantum level so far that prevent time travel, and moreover I recently travelled to another time to help capturing a rogue time traveller...
Spectator: JUST SHUT UP! We are trying to watch AND listen!

Astro: I think the volume on this set is a little messed up.

Spectator: That's the tint Astro.

Astro: Oh....I never was good with these old fashioned televisions.

To do that, I would need to remember who, of all members requested it. I do not want to risk offending those who do not want correction. However, in your current post, I spotted a mistake:

" Not only you wouldn't offend me, but I'd welcome your corrections as it would help me to improve a lost faster."

Not only you wouldn't offend me,
should be:

"not only would you not offend me"

But please do not ask me to refer to rules, because I do not know them formally. I only knows good grammar when I sees it. :D
