Your attempt reminds me on an Asterix comic book in which the druid Miracoulix gets hit by an obelisk thrown by Obelix.
Consequently the druid lost his mind and couldn't recall the recipe for the famous magic-potion anymore. He tried cooking several potions containing the weirdest ingredients and causing even weirder side effects when tasted. His face color changed from green to blue, also from yellow/pink checkered over to yellow points on blue ground. However, the magical effect on increasing the physical strength was tending against 0 most of the time - until he got hit again by another obelisk flying in his direction. Thereafter, his sanity returned, along with his memory of the potion's original recipe.
I can't recall the volume's title anymore, but it's gotta be one of Uderzo's/Coscinny's earlier works I think.
Miracoulix? So that's how they call him in German!

I've never read any Astérix comics, but I recall watching a movie with this story, Astérix et le coup du menhir, or Asterix and the Big Fight in English.
