With the announcement that the Poseidon Adventure is about to be remade, I have to wonder where the so called tallents of Hollywood have gone in the last five years. What is this trend towards re-hashing and ruining classics ( or in some cases rehashing stupidity as in Pukes of Biohazards)

Hollywood's excuse that they're introducing a new generation to old ideas is about as stupid as it gets. If I want to introduce my kids to a classic, I'll show them the orriginal Willie Wonka with the only man who was fit to play the role. Damn if these idiots try rehashing Silver Streak.

If they want ideas, they could try perhaps......looking at Anime?

I hear you on Hollywood's lack of talent these days, but using Wonka as an excuse doesn't sit well with me. As much as I like the original movie, Burton's was meant to be more true to the original book (which I hear the original movie isn't) and though i've still yet to see this, Johnny Depp plays the role very well. Differently, yes. But very well. But then, i've yet to see Depp do a bad job in anything. Especially when Burton is involved as well. :D But you are right on Hollywood's lack of talent and originallity. A better example would be "House of Wax." What the hell were they thinking remaking THAT? Burton gets off the hook because he wanted to make a movie more accurate to the Wonka book, but that other House of Wax was more like a House of CRAP! If there's anything that should be left untouched, it's Vincent Price's excellent work. Reamking Psycho was a dumb idea too.

The first time I saw Psycho in its entirety was when I saw the remake. I was so freaking out, because I had no idea that the woman nhad just ripped of her employer (I think that was in the original that I recall seeing after the remake).

Some things ought to be left alone, & whether remade or colorized, the originals still stand out as best. But if one dislikes remakes, realize that more than a few episodes in the 2003 Astroboy were either remakes or at least borrowed plot elements from the earlier animated series or manga.

I could name a few, but I am busy right now watching Puffy Ami Yumi, & hope that the next 2 shows on my tape will be new to me.

Perhaps we talked earlier about the ideas of Anime that hollywood could use, however after seeing that disaster of a Thunderbirds movie....I quickly backtrack. Please leave Anime alone Hollywood.
