I haven't watched it since I was growing up (I'm an 80's child)...I can't remember the name of the computer Astro talked to at the end of each episode! It was a she right??? Does anyone know her name? It's been killing me...!

Obviously, you are talking about the French version, as it is the only one version where Astro talks to a computer at the end of each episode. Fortunately, I remember the computer's name only in the French version (don't know if it has one in the other ones by the way). It's name is Géronimo.

I *think* the English Canadian version might have had the same cuts than the French version, which is why they had a different dubbing than in other English speaking countries. In that case, they probably had the game at the end too.

As for it being a she, I only remember it being reffered to by "Géronimo t'attend pour le rapport" (Geronimo is waiting for you for the report) and then the narrator saying "... à l'ordinateur Géronimo" (to the computer Geronimo), so I don't remember it having a gender.

And welcome among us! :)

The genders in English seem to be strange by moments, at least from the point of view of a non-native English speaker ;) For example, I have learnt that inanimated objects have a neutral gender and have to be referred by "it". However, I have seen the word "ship" (and by extension "spaceship") being referred so many times by "she" from so many different sources, that I have come to think that although a ship is an inanimated object, it MAY have to be referred by "she".

"Ship" is indeed a "she". But having never seen an English episode with Geronimo and not knowing for sure if they exist, all I can say is that it didn't have a gender in French, which I thought might answer the original question since I don't know in which language he/she has watched the series. Maybe I wasn't clear about it but that's what I meant. :)

;) [Scratches head in utter befuddlement] What are you talking about? Did the Canadian editors add footage to the end of the episodes?

Yes!

First we saw Astro coming back to earth and then going in the tunnel (taken from the opening credits), then it switched to Astro in his red suit coming to Elefun's office (this was taken from "Save the Classmate", as Astro was coming from his first day at school), with Elefun saying "Ah, Astro! Geronimo was waiting for your report". We'd see Geronimo, which was a computer taken from "Astro Save Aliens" according to what Strange Wings told me in this post. (BTW, searching for this post, the search also returned this post, in which Anapan confirms Geronimo's name and the cuts in the English Canadian dub.) Then we'd hear Astro going on with his report, while we'd see images from the episode. At the end, a narrator would ask us which error Astro had voluntarily put in his report (sometimes a wrong name or place) and ask us to write it down. Here we could send our paper to the channel, and I think some were randomly selected to win some prize.

There was another addition after the next episode's trailer, where we'd get Astro right after he put back his boots after getting Nikki's legs. Nikki didn't die because of the cuts, so we never got to see this scene in the actual episode, but we'd get Astro's blink and watch him fly away at the end of each episode. :D He'd say "And don't forget my friends, our game will continue in the next episode... goodbye!", except for the last episode where he said something like "Well that was the end, I'll come back... maybe!" It took 25 years but he did come back after all! :wahah:

Anapan had this sequence on his server, at least in French (I've never checked to see if he had it in English, but I'd love to see it at least once). He also had the opening credits, in which we saw Astro being built before the opening song started. So we had some bad cuts, but I liked these special features. To this day, it still seems a little bit strange to me when I watch the US dubbing and see the ending credits right after the episode. I still feel something is missing!

Did it cut Tobio's death in the hospital bed (I am assuming it would)?
