Ok, what happened to my thread? All I wanted was to talk to someone Japanese here for a change, but my thread got turned into a discusion about politics and hentai. <_<

I guess not many people here are Japanese. Ohh well, Maybe I'll PM the people who I think are. ;)

Yes I am sorry about that mate. Unfortunately an issue I am.. irked by.. was touched on and for some reason I was unable to not say anything.

I am actually not sure there are any Japaneese on the boards. At least none of us "regulars" anyway. It is rather the pity as I too would love to be able to correspond with a Japaneese person well schooled in my own language. oh, the questions we could ask and the things that we could learn.

I believe right now only Dannavy will be able to give us some insight into Japan due to his work history. We used to have a Haruko-chan as well, but havent seen post for quite a while.

Does anyone here actually speak Japaneese? I seem to remember we had a language discussion thread once. Mebbe I should do a search and bump it, see if we cant get some learning going on again. heh.

At least Japan is trying to produce some new stuff. ok, so sure it may be mostly recycled, but I would rather watch "elfien lied" than "Law and Order

We totally agree. Sorry bout that with the thread, I went off on a loon.

do you have specific thoughts you wish to ask? I can tell you about climbing Mount Fuji for one. When it rains, it's like climbing cement mix but why the elderly can truck their way up so smoothly I have no idea.

We often get many images of a perfect mount Fuji however this is not so, Fuji has a gigantic divit sliced out of it (about 1,000 square foot of the mountain side) caused by the last major eruption in 1707 when the mountain did a lateral St Hellens. The one thing the tour guides always say before your climb is....

"We are advised to explain that Fuji-san is an active volcano and that we share no responsibility if he should become angry during your climb. Please run away from the sumit should any unfortunate occurances unfold."

How re-assuring.

Drunk driving in Japan can pay a heavy fine. Four years ago the Japanese government began a program of public humilliance of DUI/DWI offenders by publishing their pictures and descriptions of their offenses in newspapers. Those causing death get to accompany pictures of those they killed and the grief stricken friends and family in the newspaper.

Every train crossing in Japan has a small red box with yellow marking lines. If your car should break down on the crossing, you must stop the trains with the switch inside the box. Problem is...you'll not only pay a fine but you'll pay every person on the train for their lost time.

Showing grief and expressions of remorse to the family of a person injured as a result of your carelessness often saves the offender from trial and jail time.

Better to give an inexpensive gift. Usually Japanese are obligated to return the favor with a more expensive gift than yours.

Not every member of the Yakuza is tattoo'd, this is an old urban myth.

Not every member of the Yakuza looks like Golgo 13, though they try.

Wow!, thanks for the info. I didn't know any of that.

I did know that to cross a street, you don't always have to wait for the walk signal to change. You can make your own signal buy taking a yellow flag out of a box at an intersection and then taking it across the street with you, then the drivers are suposed to stop, then you put the flag into another box on the other side of the street. I saw this in a 1960's movie with Cary Grant and George Tekai. Don't know if they still do that though.

I have a special fondness for Japanese people. If there are any here who'd like to PM me I'd love to get to know them myself.

My dream is to visit Japan one day.
