Being old has little, if anything to do with being better. Some people grew up with Astroboy, and they as adults, have fond memories of the show, whether it was the first or second animated version of Astroboy (there have been 3).

I've never watched Pokemon, but as jeffbert says, being old doesn't necessarily mean not being as good!

Pikachu would get waxed. Then petted and end up leaving Ash because Astro is by far nicer and would spoil Pikachu rotten.

pokemon was a great show but, now it doesnt attract my attention as much, i dont really like the fancy graphics as much as the older graphics, and for some reason the situations they encounter seem a bit more babyish. i love the kanto and johto journeys, man i remember when pokemon was "the bomb" lol. in the mall they even had a pokecenter! i grew up with pokemon and have alot of memorys........

Astro is better than Pokemon in terms of story at least

Sadly Pokemon as a series suffered like Astro Boy 2003 did from dubbing companies "infuencing" the direction of the show taken by the producers. Once Pokemon got big over here in the west pressure was put on the company producing the anime to make it to talior the kiddie market here. This meaning, no innuendo jokes, anything rude or antyhing that could be frowned apon. Sadly because Pokemon is largely innoffesive it's also dull and full of fluff

Astro 80's and 60's are fairly lucky because they dont quite get the same extensive cuts of everything "offensive" and anything that really affects the characters in the series. They also had a decent dubbing company. The 2003 series suffers a little from cuts and dubbing more but it still tops most dubbed anime
