WordPerfect help

Postby mr skunk » 18 years ago

I recently saved a 32 KB story I was writing. When I tried to open it up today, half of it was missing. What's strange is when I checked the document size, it still said 32 KB. I made a copy of it, and the copy says 16 KB. I know half is missing, and yet it's telling me it's still there. Anybody have any ideas? :(

Are you using MACOSX ?
You must know that when a file is saved, the actual file length is stored somewhere along the name, while data are stored in a different part. If for some reason only 16 Kb were saved while the correct length was stored, you would see 32 Kb, while the real size would be 16 Kb in your case. Not sure it is very clear, but I can't make it clearer :D
If you know of a filesystem checker for your operating system, try to use it, it might fix the problem (or not).

Edit: Checking a disk on MACOSX.

I am not "clever", I just happen to know many things in a field where you don't know as much as me. You probably know many things about tomcats and aeronautics in general, while personnally I am completelly clueless in those fields :D

I'm just gonna type it up again. It should only take me an hour or so. I just wish I remembered some of the things I typed...

You should try to fix your filesystem nevertheless. There might be errors that causes the data loss, and it might happen again.

It was a gift for LynnyM. As you know she's a huge fan of Kei Kisaragi, so I wrote her a story about the said character. ;)
