I'd feel strange getting rid of someone's thread, even if they're not here anymore.I suppose we can stick with this one, and to get started, everyone who wants to play claim a character!
mr skunk: Skunk
I believe someone already mentioned they wanted to be Uran, so that's good. But I believe before we get started, we should have a few more people as characters. Obviously an Astro. If we can get an Ochanomizu and Daddy Walrus, that would be awesome. To make it easier, people can be more than one character, because there are probably more characters than there are members!
So to get us started on that, I guess I'll claim Rock as well.
mr skunk: Skunk, Rock
Okay people, whoever wants to play, choose a character! If it's alright with everyone, I was thinking we could stay true to the 1980s series and 2003 series, because it seems we have a lot of fans of both.I don't believe it will get confusing, at least I hope not...

I think it would be better to limit the thing to one or another version.

I have no idea how to role-play on the internet, but I choose 2:
Dr. Fooler (Minimini in the 2003). BTW, he was out to acquire Atom long before the 2003, it was in Count Bat (vol. 18), after Atom lost his legs to the Count's acid squirting ring, that the Chibi-Atom was first seen. Other than that Fooler was really little more than a pain in the ***, rather than a serious threat.
&
Kin Sankaku (Golden Triangle) Even Lamp fears him! Episode 136 Inspector Jaguar has Lamp as a hoodlum, whose stolen goods are then stolen from him by KS. In desperation, Lamp refuels Atom, rather than trying to join KS' gang. BTW, this story involved a robot cop who was reluctant to arrest humans. Although Sankaku portrayed Guiss, I prefer his other role.
Perhaps I should have chosen a robot? I pick a fairly obscure one:

V-3

Interesting choices, jeffbert.
The reason I thought it would be okay to stay true to both series, was because some characters people want to be may not appear in both. I think even you yourself chose a character from the 60s, am I right? I think so...
Anyway, I'd like to hear other people's opinion on the matter. I feel Sparx wants to play, but I also know she has only seen the 2003 version.
Okay! So Far...
Yumi-chu: Uran
Astro Forever: Walper Giss/Guiss
mr skunk: Skunk, Rock
jeffbert: Dr. Fooler/Minimini, Kin Sankaku, V-3
We're doing good so far, guys! Somebody pick Astro, quick!
jeffbert, who is V-3?
Also, I know what Dr. Fooler looks like, but who is Kin Sankaku?

Why stay true to a given series? If we are to do a role-playing, I suggest we stay true to the characters themselves (to a certain extent), not a given series.
Otherwise, I would be interested to pick either Dr. Elefun, or Astro if no one dares to pick him

V-3 debuted as an enemy to Big X, was a villian in the 1960s Astroboy series, and was chief among the Robot Hunters in the 2003 series. Perhaps I should have Picked IDAK instead.

Kin Sankaku
Manga (Astroboy):
- Cruciform Island
- Artificial Sun
- Jimmen Iwwa (face in the rock)
- Chronicles: Dr. Tenma (Taba Koh, the financier of Atom's construction ((vol. 7)))
Anime (Astroboy 60s):
- Artificial Sun
- Sea serpent Island
- Atom vs. Atom (chief among criminals)
- Inspector Jaguar
Anime (Astroboy 80s):
- Artificial Sun
- played the role of Giss

I agree very much with fafner. In fact, this is sorta what I had in mind. But he seemed to explain it much better than I did.

And anyway, role playing doesn't stay true to anything really, because we'll be making up our own story as we go along. fafner, does this mean you'd like to be Astro or Dr. Elefun? Which should I put you down for?

It would be unfair of me to say "no," but I really insist on choosing characters from the show.

If you still would like to be your own character, why not post a description of him/her in this thread?

When I was in High School, we played Avalon-Hill role-playing games, but they required a "Dungeon Master" whose only role was ****ing with the poor guys who were warriors, mages, etc. He had more than a few different types of dice, & took pleasure annoucing our deaths when the roll went against us.
Hence, I must ask how do we 'play' this game? Is it a matter of killing time or actually winning? If we restrict our guys to their 'powers' as seen on TV, can we allow somebody to invent a character that has all strengths & no weaknesses?
For instance, my choices of humans:
Dr Fooler
---------
Strength: scientific genuis
Weakness (besides that he always loses to Atom): he is 3-4 feet tall
goal: Acquire Atom
Kin Sankaku
------------
Strength: He is the equivelent of The Kingpin, the criminal world's bad***
Weakness (besides that he always loses to Atom): enjoys reading Astroboy manga
Goal: crime
Others:
Hamegg
--------
Occupation: Showman/ French Aristocrat (Blue Knight manga)
Strength: none
Weakness (besides that he always loses to Atom): tragedy strikes his shows
Pipi (Pepe)
-----
Occupation: Robotic merboy
Strengths: Just as cute as they come
Weakness: ill-suited for life on land
Uran
----
Occupation: Comic-relief/damsel in distress
Strentgh: 50,000 HP
Weakness: finds trouble wherever she goes
Atlas (80s chibi)
----------------
Strengths: same as Atom
Weakness: same as Atom
Lamp
-----
Japanese version of H. Bogart in role of criminal
etc.
But which roles do we require of those who had many? For instance, Hamegg as mentionaed above? Characters such as Tick & Tock are comic-relief whatever their roles.
I presume there is some sort of organization to these role-playing games, but am clueless as to what.

Personally, I would rather see some kind of "free theatre", where each character plays a role then let another one play. I have done a little role playing in the background of a game, and a few rules had been put down:
- Write narration in italic, dialogs in normal font.
- Don't play someone else's character.
- Stick to events in the game (obviously this one is meaningless since there is no actual game here).
The size of the text can be anything from a few lines to several pages
If it isn't clear, I will come back with a small example tomorrow
