I just wrote a thread on another anime board sarcastically stating that "Japan thanks America for ignoring 50 years of japanese animation and that US anime fans could care less or even know of such greats like Astro Boy" because im so frustrated with the lack of good stuff like Astro. All people want these days is that Naruto or Dragon Ball or Bleach all those shallow japanese cartoons that really dont take their stories anywhere, and drag them out so long you lose intrest!
People who watch anime and care less about astro boy is saying people who read US comics could care less for Superman! it makes the head hurt from the ill-logic. how can you have a passion for a hobby without knowing its origins?! People dont even know AND they dislike it! And claim anime is their thing??!?!? I fear for the next generation!
If you dont like Astro Boy then youve never seen it, or have ADD, or like that hentai garbage.

ever a long time of thinking i think its pretty simple
1: Astroboy looks even more cutier then Mickey Mouse therefore the Genral public refuse to see him as more then ` a childlish character like Mighty Mouse`
2: New Anime fans ( sorry to be hars ) are only intrested in the new Anime trend they see Astroboy as outdated ( once on Msn a Anime fan told me she doesnt even like Sailor Moon cause it looks way to old ) these fans just like to see characters fighting or acting goofy ( Naruto Bleach InuYasha FMA )
3: other people will get pretty bored because they don`t understand or can`t follow
reading: Tezuka`s rants Tezuka`s Opnions Astro`s speeches , Tezuka Theories over the moon, how they explain Cybernetic Racism, History of war these are all intreseting offcourse and thats why i love the Manga but afraid the genral public ignores it

Osamu Tezuka, along with being a fantastic and influential artist and the rightfully named "God of Manga", was a genius whose messages to the world are only more relevant than ever. Unfortunately, they're the kind of messages that people who haven't already heeded them since childhood probably never will. It's a shame I was only 2 when he died, I would have loved to meet him, he is my idol and hero. I wish I had 1/100th of his artistic talent, I wish I learned to draw.
It's shameful that the powers that be haven't made more effort to bring his works to the west. So many other animes have made it here, but I think everything he ever did should be brought here before anything else does. Well, it's like a lot of good things. The masses are spoon-fed so much garbage, but there are a few that would like something better than the flavor of the week.

For one that served under Dracula, you seem much too weak.

I'm actually very surprised that Astroboy isn't huge everywhere. I guess the lack of decent fansites meant something but I live in Melbourne, Australia where Astroboy was translated into English. I guess that's gotta mean something because almost everyone knows Astroboy here. You can buy the DVD's anywhere, get all sorts of merchandise (like bags, posters, key-rings, figurines badges ect) from any Asian store as easily as buying Hello Kitty.
In fact there was an article about him just the other day in a newsletter "Astroboy. Why he's ok but we all prefer his sister"
(P.S.: Hi I'm Stikibunn, pleased to meet ya'll)

Welcome Stikibunn!
I can only dream to see that here in Canada. Hopefully if the 3D movie ever comes out, I'll get the chance to see it.

Do you mean that the mangas were first translated into English by the Australians? I had no idea."Stikibunn" wrote:I'm actually very surprised that Astroboy isn't huge everywhere. The voice acting in the 1982 anime was done in Melbourne by the ABC. (at least that's how the urban legend goes) This is why Astro is said to go to "Primary School instead of Elementary School which is the term used in japan and most of america (and some states old Australia) Because of this Melbourne has a special attachment to Tezuka's artwork. In fact we were the first stop on his art tour when it left Japan (I went to it) and when I wrote my Professional Writing and Editing course I wrote an assignment on "Astroboy and Atlas's conflict in the 1982 anime and how it relates to the Mythical archetypical structure" and got and A!

From what I've read on this forum, I'm pretty sure that the voice acting was done in the US. I can't seem to find the thread through the search option, but Jay Rath and Becke Wilensky have posted here, as well as crazy2000, whose father has worked on the series. It should be possible to find them through the archives, or maybe in older threads. I think it was done on some university campus or something like that, in the north east."Stikibunn" wrote:The voice acting in the 1982 anime was done in Melbourne by the ABC. But who knows, I may have been mistaken all along!
