I always have difficultly deciding between favourite episodes but I would say that my favourite episode from the 60's series would be Angel of the Alps so far. Astro was just so cute disguised as a human. And Brother Jetto (Cobalt) was funny as well.

From the 80's I like quite a few but my fav would have to be Astro's First Love. I can still remember watching that when I was at least 7 or 8 and always imaging I was Nikki with those little shoes. Atlas Lives again and Save the Classmate have also been top favs of mine as well.

As for the 03 series, Only a Machine would be my fav. I enjoyed episodes with Rock and Phoenix as well. :astro:

Exactly. X-D

2003: First and foremost "Atlas", and "Astro vs Atlas", for that reason, and because of the great story there (manly tears), which I'm sure I needn't explain since I'll assume you all have watched it. Then, episodes...47 and 48, I believe, when (1) Astro and Blue Knight stopped the Omotenium laser from hitting Robotonia and (2) when Atlas protects Astro from Blue Knight's attempt to kill him. Astro's negotiation of peace was very impressive as well, but the end of the episode was fairly ridiculous. Maybe it's because I can't find this one in Japanese.
Additionally, I enjoyed "Lost in Outland", the Boon episode everyone keeps mentioning, as it was a pretty awesome oneshot story that has always made me feel it was OVA material, and I loved Denkou, the remake of "The Light Ray Man". It gave the character a whole new light, and a full personality, something that the original Denkou lacked. You came to really love and worry about the character, and seeing her die like the original would've been very painful. (On a sidenote, it also made him a her, and the series needed some more girls around. ;-)

1983: No doubt about it. "A Robot President" and "Robot Vikings".
Here's why. A Robot President is about one of my all-time favourite characters, who, unfortunately, was cut out of the 2003 anime. Rag is very heroic, but loveable and childlike, much like Atomu, and, he is one of sadly only a few characters who have happy endings. Robot Vikings was very sweet, and as mentioned had several funny gags in it. And Atlas saving Jumpu at the end, because of his gratitude and his love for Livian, was a happy twist and enough to make even a grump like me cheer.

By the way... At the beginning of "Robot Vikings", when the robots are tearing through town... Pay attention during the scene in which they are in a store and knock down a TV onto a woman's head. On the TV is the image of Osamu Tezuka, and he makes a grimacing face when the screen impacts the woman.

...I am ashamed to say I have not yet seen the original series. I wasn't 'around' for it, and the box set is far too expensive. :hyo:

My favorite episode is in the 2003 series where Astro falls for the female astronaut. I found it highly amusing and very cute. Plus, I had to give Astro credit. She WAS pretty :D

My Favorite episode would have to be the one that started the series. Without that first episode it would not be quite so appealing to me, it shows how Astroboy is created and what led to the hero he became. Thanks

I also find Astro most compelling at his origins, but I also like "Lost in Outland" from 2003. I guess I like the concept of him losing his identity and living among a bunch of misfits, outcasts and has-beens.
Astro hangin' with his Gypsy peeps. Nice ring.

Yeah, I too enjoyed that concept. It really seemed to fit.
It seems that episode was pretty damn popular, too, and I suppose that's because there were so many things to like about it.

Actually, ever since I saw it, I've been looking out for Boon in every Tezuka manga/anime I see. X-3

Yeah, he does have his Tezukaesque tags.
Butchy, hairy tough guy with girly eyelashes-now that's character design. :D
