Richard Widmark dies at age 93

Postby mr skunk » 17 years ago

Richard Widmark, Academy Award nominated actor, died Monday March 24 at the age of 93. This news was especially upsetting to me, being a big fan of his characters, but more importantly the role he had in the creation of my favorite Tezuka character of all time, Skunk Kusai.

In Widmark's debut film, Kiss of Death, he introduces us to the character Tommy Udo, from which Skunk was based. And for this I thank him.

Widmark has been in many other films and acomplished an impresive 44 year film career. Some of his other more popular works include Road House, and Night and the City.

I first heard about his death today, and needless to say I was very upset. Yes, I cried. I was a big fan. More than anything, I'm glad he inspired the creation of a character who will last (hopefully) for a long, long time.

Thanks Mr. Widmark.

93 is a ripe, old age. Perhaps we should rather celebrate the fact that he lived that long. Anyway, I am saddened that you are saddened by his passing.

You're absolutely right, 93 means he lived a long, full life and for that I'm happy. It's sad when an actor dies before his prime, but for him this wasn't the case. Yes I'm sad, but he already made his talent known in his movies, and his characters are what will always stay with me.

I'm sorry too that you feel sad, but I'm glad that he provided you with good memories. :)

It's always sad to see an actor go. But at least he hung in there for quite a while. BTW, I didn't know Skunk was based off of him
