"The Robot President"

Airport announcer is Debbie Holmes. All regular cast are the same. I am the robot guard. The half-robot is Dave Miller. The president must be Becky Wilenski.

Ugh, the soldiers are all of us. I can't sort it out. I am the main one on the radio. Dead Cross is Richard Ganoung. Eww, Daddy is crucified? Too much!

Gotta love that machine gun up Astro's butt. It made us laugh every time.

I am the announcer introducing the president on the balcony.

"Goliath's Head"

Goliath is Paul Nelson. Eww -- eyes in his nipples?

Dave Miller is Prof. Maxim. The robot Goliath destroys is Richard Ganoung. The radio announcer is Del Lewis. Auctioneer is Brian Perry.

Wow. I do not remember this episode at all. Pretty horrific ending.

Finally happy with the Skunk voice.

"The Light Ray Robot"

At last, a memorable episode! I remember doing it very well.

I am the introductory announcer. Richard Ganoung is the angry customer. I am of course Skunk again. It was very rare to double in the same scene. Brian Perry is the fat, mustachioed jeweler. Del Lewis is the TV announcer. Richard Ganoung is my sidekick. Kahlie Slick is the Light Ray Robot. Wow, this is her big first guest part. I remembered her as being much more central to the series.

This may be the single best Skunk episode. I am very proud of what I did here.

"Uran the Tomboy"

I remember it as "Urane." No matter. Yes, we all giggled at how close the name was to a bodily function. I am the opening announcer, Paul Nelson is the next to speak (a captain?) and I am the officer.

The Ministry of Science strongly resembles the Disneyworld hotel; I'm sure it was not an accident. Tezuka loved all things Disney.

I next am the intercom announcer. Wow, three parts for me already! Becky Wilenski is Urane -- and now I suppose it comes down to it: the whole cast -- well, we did not care for her. She came in very late, seemed to have a special relationship with the director, and she was much more of a serious stage actress; looked down on us and the project. So long ago and we have all changed and been humbled by life changes; Becky, wherever you are now, I love you.

I am the accident victim who shouts, "What do you think you're doing?" Greg Zerkle is the street clown. Dave Miller is the moustached gangster. I am the computer voice. I am the big brown robot who is thrown down. Wow! Lots of work for me this time.

Dave Miller is the next big brown robot.

Fine show! But where's the Urane song?

I don't care for myself in the slightest, but the pilot set up the whole series, everything about Atlas and his relationship with Astro. It made clear the nuclear engine inside each. Yes, Skunk was featured throughout, but that was just a subplot. The duality of Astro and Atom was the pilot -- and that's now all lost. They were twins, one good, one evil.

Someone find the money and we'll re-record it!

*opens his Darth Vader bank* Hmm, one dollar and 50, 51, 52 cents. Will that cover it? XD

52 cents? No, sorry. That's 50 cents too much.

But I will very, very gladly do my part for free if someone flies me and feeds me where the job needs to be done, here or in Australia or Japan or -- heck, Des Moines, Iowa, U.S.A -- anywhere.

I will do anything . . . anything . . . to boost this show. It has been such a long time for you all to find our work. Thank you so much for caring. Some of your posts have made me cry.

Okay, that's enough. Ahem. (Sucking it up.) Why, I never said that at all! Someone else posted it. I am eight foot Skunk, Astro's biggest threat! I am the toughest of tough guys!

(sniff . . . )

The theme was played she got out of her box, but IIRC, both the American and Australian set have the original song with lyrics, so at least we got to see it after all! :D

Speaking of Becke, she visited us a long time ago. She couldn't find the picture of the cast but she found this!

Do you remember who did the voice for the young Atlas?

Ha! I am the Red Cat!

I am also Dr. Leopold. This very nearly was my natural speaking voice at the time. Dave Miller is the scientist who recalls it all -- my enemy in the show.

Wow, this is one creepy episode. I don't remember any of it at all. Good lord, I'm a freaking rodent. How did I ever grow that moustache?

The people in the security room are Nelson and Zerkle. The Hitler-moustached fatty is also Nelson.

Yeah, a one-message episode. A nice, positive message, but violent and creepy.

"The Crystal of the Desert"

Paul Nelson as Atlas, of course. I am the lead gopher or prairie dog or whatever that is -- Pecos Pete. The accent is from my bad Catholic high school Spanish class.

Livian must be Becky Wilenski, but I'm not sure at all.

Ha! Atlas speaks of his "mighty sword." What, he rides a huge stallion, and his weiner crystal space place looks like . . . well, you know what it looks like. Forgive us, but we had dirty minds -- Livian herself is pretty pointy -- and that stuff cracked us up all the time.

This is the second time that racism becomes a major theme. We've now had environmentalism twice, racism twice, and other issues. That's why "Astro" is so good. It's ABOUT something!

Moustached scuba slave is Bob Gonzalez.

Is it just me or does Atlas look increasingly Aztec?

Another episode with very few actors. I don't remember doing it at all.

"The White Planet"

The DVD intro text -- before you click into the show -- reminds me that we recorded many tags; lots of Astro looking into the camera and saying what was coming next. They do not seem to be offered here. I wonder where they are?

Ha! When you hear that marimba theme you know Skunk is coming. I don't know if anyone other than Astro got his/her own theme. Conrad is Greg Zerkle. I'll stop naming recurring actors unless the casting changes. His girlfriend Mitzi is Kahlei Slick. The race announcer is Bob Gonzalez. Black Devil is Richard Ganoung.

I am finally doing the version of the Skunk voice I like best. Still too high-pitched, though. I wonder if my own natural voice has just dropped over the years? Anyway, Skunk is best down low.

The bald, pointy headed driver is Paul Nelson. The TV announcer is our director, Del Lewis.

I have written reviews of many of these stories & posted them on http://tezukainenglish.com. I referenced the reviews to the manga versions, but discuss the animated versions. Jeffbert's listing of 1963 episodes has links to all my reviews, referenced to the 1963 English-language titles.

Here are two that you mentioned:
Jeffbert's review of "Red Cat"

Jeffbert's review of "White Planet"

I covet your coments, Jay. Here are the URLs to the threads for these reviews:

OMG, that cartoon is awful! I drew it myself. We're each holding our on-screen ventrilolquist figures. From left to right, we are:

Brian Perry, Debbie Holmes, Richard Ganoung, Dave Miller, Paul Nelson, Patty Whitely, Bob Bonzalez, Becky Wilenski, myself, Kahlei Slick, Greg Zerkle.

Oh, it is so bad! Delete it and I will post photos soon!

Reason: Oh sorry, I edited your post instead of replying to it! Jay added that Debbid Holmes probably did young Atlas' voice.

Wow. Jeffbert, your comments in reviews far supercede anything I can say. You seem to exactly understand the series. I wish you had the pilot to view.

I don't think it's that bad, it's just funny... and that was the very first time we got to see a glimpse of the crew. Since you insist, I'll remove the link. ;)

No, no -- let it go, let it go. It's history.
