When I first read this topic I was unaware there was a death toll for the fires. But World of Warcraft had just been banned for sale in parts of Australia, so "Wow Australia disasters mount" sounded nowhere near as serious.

As far as I know, it is a side-effect of a law in Australia. Don't remember the details, but people suddenly became aware that no age-rating is given for online games and the fact that Australia has a law that explicitly forbids selling of video games that aren't age-rated. Thus, the sudden removing of online games for sale in Australia. So this isn't exactly a ban. I suppose it will be eventually solved someday.

No idea about that, I didn't even know there was a single version. Is it a different package than the multi-user? Because if it isn't, then the whole package falls under that law anyway.
