Or when he takes off his boot because there's water in it... I love those moments!

Yeah, so do I!

That sort of humour combined with love and cuteness only Tezuka was able to think of. Hence those little yet important interludes nearly have vanished throughout the whole 2003 version.

It's '
The Crystal Of The Desert'. The ep title could have been chosen more accurately though, as the desert was just the place where Astro encountered Atlas' crystal castle for the first time. The crystal itself hasn't anything to do with the desert, apart from serving as a temporarily filling station for the crystal's demand for water. I'd rather entitle the episode as '
The Crystal'. Or maybe '
Astro's Abduction', or as a movie reference: '
Astro's Close Encounter Of The Crystalline Kind'.
Now I recall how Atlas mentioned about his castle having a 'Tachyon Receiver', a device that makes it travelling faster than light.
According to some 'esotherical' sources a crystal is a Tachyon Receiver by itself, as it's supposed to concentrate & emit cosmic energy provided by Tachyons, Scalar Waves and suchlike.

I've never seen a crystal travelling faster than light in real life though (ok, that last sentence was a no-brainer!

).
