I found this
http://www.rightstuf.com/1-800-338-6827/catalogmgr/7QQ=o0MIsszVgbIrC0/browse/item/66578/60/5050/0
It says it's "Hybrid" but I don't know if it's all the episodes or uncut

That's the Manga release. It's dual audio, so you can watch it in Japanese with English subtitles if you like. Most episodes don't have anything cut from them.

Cheaper on EBay though.

I've finally watched the episode. I understand why so many have fond memories of that dubbing, the voices are indeed very pleasing. I really like Astro's voice. Nice job! ;)

Seems to me that Elefun/Peabody have the same kind of reassuring voice in both English dubs and in the French dubbing. I've forgotten how he sounds in Japanese.

Thank you again, Fauna. If you ever make it to "The Girl from Alsoar", it'd be interesting to hear Sarah's voice and Astro's parents.

Manga Entertainment's release. It's an American company.

Ah, I gotcha. Thanks and dual audio works for me. I wish they made it law that all animes get released with dual audio 'cause sometimes I like seeing the original version, but sometimes I don't feel like READING my animes XD

I once had a dream where the Canadian dub was a hidden extra on the Manga Entertainment DVD set.

So, I've just finished recording the audio for "The Girl From Alsoar", or, as the voice actors call it, "Andor". What I find strange is how "Alsoar" is on the title screen anyway.

PREVIEW TIME!
Uran/Sarah sounds exactly like I remember her. I'm guessing her actress is about 8-10 years old, but I'm not sure. Violet has a higher, softer voice. Also, Astro's dad is referred to as "Arthur". I wish I had more episodes, so I could find out what Astro's mom was named.

A LOT of material was cut out. The scene in the alien ship where Astro goes into the room with the vines, some Alsoar Robot fighting...but nothing compares to the twist of the ending. You guys remember when Astro visits Elefun in the Ministry of Science, and has two satelite pictures? Instead of forwarning Alsoar's explosion, Elefun/Peabody tells us it's another spaceship, and ponders if Violet sent a distress signal home.

After Astro destroys the alien ships, he gets on the video phone and tells Peabody to call off the earth patrol. Peabody interrupts to tell him that Violet was actually picked up by the new ship a few hours ago. No explosion of Alsoar.

All footage of Violet from that point is cut. You don't see her run away in horror, disintegrate into a plant, or the cut-ahead to a year later. After the commerical break, the scene goes to a few hours later on the ski hill. Astro goes to visit the place he and Violet first met, while talking to himself, finds her flower and says Violet left a "keepsake". Cue Geronimo's recap.

While being sort-of unplausible, I like this episode better without being so depressing. And I remember Jay Rath saying, back when he did his episode commentary, that Violet being a plant and all was pretty gross. (Where is Jay, anyway?!)

Good job! It's unfortunate that you could only show it this way and not as a full episode which would have included "The Report to Geronimo" part! Question: Wasn't the French dub supposed to be identical to the Canadian English dub? Any way until some other collector decides to come forth, at least now one has an idea of what the Dub made specifically for Canadian audiences was like! [My guess is that once the distribution rights for "Astroboy" were up in Canada, the dub is either locked in storage in some unknown warehouse or was destroyed by Tezuka Pro./NTV as they already had their "exact translated" version which was very popular in Australia where the restoration of "Astro Boy" began!

I always thought so and still think so, but now that we have two episodes to compare, we could give a definite answer to this one. ;)

From memory, I do not remember well these episodes in French but the cuts Fauna describe sounds just like the type of cuts I remember in many other episodes. Strange Wings, are you around?
