So anyway, I've bought the Japanese dub...

Postby Fauna » 16 years ago

...I haven't got it yet, but I've ordered official Japanese VHS copies of the 2003 series. I didn't want to brag about it, because usually doing that makes me lose an eBay auction, or at least cause an enormous problem during check-out. Which is sort-of happening right now.

I'll be getting the Japanese copies of episodes 5-20, and I'll be trying to get them into digital copies. But I don't know how used these tapes are, so hopefully I'm not buying them when they're minced to hell. Please, please...

Can anyone fix the 2003 episode listing on Tezuka In English? You know, the parts in brackets that compare the different listings? I almost didn't get half my tapes until I found the correct order on a Chinese site. It should go like this:
13. Little Sister, Big Trouble (Uran is Born)
14. Micro Adventure (The Big Adventure of Micro)
15. Only A Machine (Protect the Artificial Intelligence)
16. Robot Hunters
17. The Rise of Pluto (The Greatest Robot In The World)
18. The Fall of Acheron (The Death of Pluto)
19. Robot Boy
20. Eternal Boy
I'll be getting all these, and more. Basically, almost all the Skunk episodes, the Pluto & Atlas sagas, and Eternal Boy. Which is good.

But anyway, you can bet I'll be sharing the original names and original clips. Wish me luck with the order, and luck that the tapes are still in great condition!

The list on Tezuka in English is the US DVD episode order. It's messed up, you get Zoran appearing before she's created, etc. I think they pushed the high-action episodes to the start to try to appeal to young boys. The parts in brackets are probably due to differences between the US DVD and US TV broadcast order - I remember Neon Express was delayed due to train bombings in Madrid.

Here is the correct Japanese broadcast / Japanese DVD / Australian broadcast episode order:

1. Power Up
2. Rocketball
3. Destination Deimos
4. Into Thin Air
5. Rainbow Canyon
6. Atlas
7. Astro vs. Atlas
8. Neon Express
9. Franken
10. The Venus Robots
11. Robot Circus
12. Reviving Jumbo
13. Little Sister, Big Trouble
14. Micro Adventure
15. Only A Machine
16. Robot Hunters
17. The Rise of Pluto
18. The Fall of Acheron
19. Robot Boy
20. Dawn of the Techno-Revolution (English) / Eternal Boy (Japanese)
21. Dragon Lake
22. The Legend of Tohron
23. Lost In Outland
24. March of the Micro Bears
25. Deep City
26. The Blue Knight
27. Old Dog, New Tricks
28. Hydra-Jacked
29. The Case of the Phantom Fowl
30. Geo Raider
31. Gideon
32. Secret of the Blue Knight
33. Fairy Tale
34. Shape Shifter
35. Firebird
36. Space Academy
37. Atlas Strikes Back
38. Battle-Bot
39. Time Hunters
40. Escape From Volcano Island
41. Avalanche!
42. Battle of Steel Island
43. Undercover
44. Into the Dragon's Lair
45. Night Before the Revolution
46. Robotonia
47. Showdown in Robotonia
48. Journey To Tomorrow
49. Astro Reborn
50. The Final Battle

The Australian DVD episode order is basically the same, but the English filler episode (20. Dawn of the Techno-Revolution) is moved to the bottom of the list.

That's all the variations I know. Hope that clears things up.

The order of the episodes as listed by Dr. Frag is correct! Only twenty episodes were aired in the U.S. in 2004, before the show stopped airing altogether! The episode, "Neon Express" was scheduled to air, but due to the terrorist bombings in Madrid the episode never aired! The episode introducing Zoran also never aired in the U.S., instead she just appears when the episode, "The Rise of Pluto" is shown! In the U.S. the airing of the show went back and forth between the broadcast channel, the WB and the cable channel, Cartoon Network! In other words those who did not have cable never saw half of the actual twenty episodes of the series that were broadcast! The order was changed because the thinking was to try to show what were thought to be the more action-filled episodes hoping this would improve ratings! The show was not well received here in the States! Good luck with your project, Fauna!

You're so lucky to have the Japanese version Fauna ^^. Good luck!

Even though they tried to increase the ratings by jumbling the order, it still didn't do well.

Now it's kind-of just a hot mess.

I know that, but the list didn't have the correct titles in brackets. I almost didn't buy any of the tapes because I wasn't interested in the "filler" episodes.

Anyhow, I finished paying for the tapes on Saturday, and am currently waiting for the guy to ship them. When they do arrive, I tell you...

If anyone's interested, this guy is selling what appears to be a bootleg DVD of the first 8 or 9 episodes. He's already told me that Canadian shipping is $6:

He claims the DVD content is in great condition. I suspect this is like the bootleg sets Strange Wings and Mr. Skunk have, but I don't know.

This one seems to be a bit different from the one I own, the sleeve's layout looks being done a lot more professional.
I can't figure out what 'OVA' stands for.
