Unless the one name was changed, 'Photar' is merely the 1980s' English name; & 'Epsilon' is the Japanese name in all versions.

That makes sense, as 'Epsilon' is the fifth letter in the greek alphabet and also has the numeric value of 5.
Since Australia is considered as the 5th continent, the greek letter perfectly fits as a name for an Australian robot.
