ICONS OF TOHO SCI-FI
I recently purchased the DVD collection: Icons of Sci-Fi:The TOHO Collection! The three disc-set features three movies from TOHO's golden age! They are: "Mothra"; "The H-Man!" and "Battle in Outer Space"! All are in wide screen format and each disc has both the English dubbed version and the original Japanese version with sub-titles! Of interest to Astro Boy fans is the fact that the English dubbing was done by Titra Studios who employed the same actors who did the voice dubbing on most of the sixties anime programs such as: "Astro Boy"; "Eighth Man"; "Gigantor"; "Speed Racer" and others! The dubbing is some of the best dubbing ever done on non-English movies imported into the U.S.A. As a special feature commentary tracks on each movie is by Japanese Kaiju-eiga experts Steve Ryfle and Ed Godziszewski! So I would highly recommend the set for any fans of giant monsters from the sixties or just for fans of Japanses Sci-Fi!

Yeah, I caught that one too! It was cool seeing it again as I had not seen the movie in years and never in color! (I am old enough to have seen it back in the sixties when it was first released to television! Back when most TV sets were black & white only! Back before color tvs were cheaply available!) What is interesting about the collection is that you also get the original Japanese version and you can compare the two versions for the edited-out scenes!

Thank you Cybotron for that informative post! I really enjoyed seeing those posters! BTW the Japanese title of "H-Man" translates as "Beauty and the Liquid People"! Intersting, "say wot"! I still recommend the "Icons Of TOHO" even if you already have copies of some or all of the films in said package because:
a.) The English versions are in WS!
b.) The commentary on the different films is very intersting and informative!
and c.) the transfers are just so "darn gosh" good!

Well I just ordered my copy. And this the 3rd time I've bought H-Man this had better be worth it!

Well even though I do like the film, "H-Man" I also already had copies (both in English and Japanese) of one of my favorite "kaiju-eiga", "Mothra" and I think the transfers on these copies are some of the best you will find! So, I for one think this collection is a good addition to anyone's collection! So I think you may be pleasantly surprised and the set is reasonably priced for a set of "six" movies!

I have a pan and scan Mothra on VHS. But I would not buy another until I could get Widescreen or letterbox. And a decent at least Stereo track. Eng would be fine, but I'd love to see the Japanese version also...

This one is widescreen is it not?

I agree these are the best transfers I've seen of these titles!!!
Worth the cost. Have to be careful with the DVD package. DVDs are stacked on top of each other. One slip with the lock and you could scratch the discs! Then you would have to buy another!

If you live long enough you might see these on Blu ray!

Yes, I agree! I don't know why they stacked the DVDs as they did! I immediately took the Mothra disc out of the case & put it in a separate case! So if one has a spare case I suggest putting your favorite in a separate case! Although if one is careful, like you say it should not be too much of a problem!
