"ASTROBUDDY" wrote:Good job! It's unfortunate that you could only show it this way and not as a full episode which would have included "The Report to Geronimo" part! Question: Wasn't the French dub supposed to be identical to the Canadian English dub? Any way until some other collector decides to come forth, at least now one has an idea of what the Dub made specifically for Canadian audiences was like! [My guess is that once the distribution rights for "Astroboy" were up in Canada, the dub is either locked in storage in some unknown warehouse or was destroyed by Tezuka Pro./NTV as they already had their "exact translated" version which was very popular in Australia where the restoration of "Astro Boy" began!

Don't worry, I'm still planning to put the Geronimo clips up, along with the ending theme. :) I'm just wondering whether to videotape the TV, or take the audio and reconstruct it (but I'd need to hunt for the appropriate clips).

I need a DVD burner. :d oh:

Good to hear it, but what I was asking about was; I read somewhere that the French dub of "Astro, le petit robot" was the same as the Canadian English dub! In other words, it began with the same voiceover (but in French) exclaiming the "LEGEND OF ASTROBOY!" and the report to the computer, recapping the just seen episode, (Whether it be Geronimo or "Nez Perce"!) was how it conclude, just like the Canadian English dub!

I'm still here. I just grew accustomed to 'watch in silence'.

Hey guys! I still haven't been able to put the Geronimo segment online, but I found something interesting...

Anyone familiar with DiC's version of Sailor Moon, from 1995? Turns out Steve Bednarski played Chad/Yuuichiro. Here's a clip; he comes in at 1:10. He had a terrible surfer accent a few episodes prior.

I wish Steve was still on the forum. I have so many things to ask him...

Thanks for providing this info and for providing the link to the clip! It was great seeing an episode of Sailor Moon again! Especially since the other link between Astro Boy and Sailor Moon is that Fred Ladd worked on both the original series and the first season of Sailor Moon! While I don't remember this particular episode that well, I am glad you brought it to everyone's attention! Here's wishing you continued success with the "restoration" of the Canadian dub! :) :astro:

Well, you people are all very, very lucky tonight...

One of my friends on Youtube had a copy of the Canadian version of "The Robot Circus", and sent me the complete .AVI file! I won't have to do any audio transferring with it, because there's too many cuts (Tornado's fiery death is shortened, Astro doesn't get whipped) and the video quality is okay on its own. Having watched it, I can verify the following changes:

*Tenma/Boynton/Balfus is announced as being dead
*Astro only has a one month contract with the circus
*Toby/Tobio = Tommy
*The series takes place in Futuropolis
*Hamegg = Roberto
*Ochanomizu/Elefun = Dr. Cole Green (this later changes to Professor Peabody)

Interestingly, Kathy has kept her name throughout all of the dubs. I'll be uploading this very soon!

Ochanomizu's had so many names hasn't he? It's a wonder he hasn't had an identity crisis yet

Hey cool, thanks a lot! It's not my childhood dub but I've always been curious about this one.

Same things in the French version (well I forgot what was Hamegg's name but Roberto rings a bell).

Is the Canadian song the same as the US version?

All I seemed to remember as a child was Astro getting whipped. I'd forgotten he also made Hamegg suffer too! :d evil:

It is indeed, but it's been shortened to omit the scenes with Astro fighting the tank, Frankenstein and the plant thing. You get part of the chorus, then it just cuts into the guitar solo.
