Astroboy in street art

Postby Ataru Moroboshi » 15 years ago

Once upon a time, an Astroboy freak went to his local library for some free of charge comics reading (in fact, I came looking for books about the Nibelungs, but I don't want to be called "Tolkienian nerd". So that) when, beween some contemporary art books he found a Street Art book. And looking for manga-themed graffitis, he found one. But what one!

Endut. Hoch hech!

This graffiti is located in Barcelona, which, for the ones who don't know, happens to be my hometown (well, not at all, but I live close to it). I'm glad to see I'm not the only Astro fan 'round here.

I was wondering if one of you guys has ever seen some kind of street art regarding Astro or other Osamu Tezuka-themed thingie. I think we all think it would be interesting to share!

Aww theres a paw on his chest!!! *Huggles him.*

As a matter of fact I did see some Astro Boy graffiti when I lived in California when I was way young. About 10 or so, but my mom and I were walking to Jack-In-a-Box which is right across the street from a train yard. Well as we sat down to eat mom sat up and pulled me to a standing position. She kinda squinted. I thought something bad was about to happen cause the last time my mom pulled me up like that was right before a drive by shooting that took out our car window. But she pointed with the biggest smile on her face. "Its Astro." I turned around and saw through two train cars a graffiti style drawing done on the side of a box car. You could tell it was old cause the red boots were turning brown from being sun bleached. But whoever drew him knew what they were doing, but...Astro wasn't doing something he's normally do. (Flipping off) So yeah...good times.

Yep that's quite an un-Astro kind of attitude, but the poor fella has to cope with those nasty robo-racists and all that bad dudes with attitude like Skunk, Lamp, Hamegg or Atlas, all at the same time. No wonder sometimes loses his temper! :D

Yeah I agree. I think the best thing I ever saw wasn't a graffiti it was a car done up in Astro Boy driving down the Atlanta Highway :D

You know? I've always wondered how close Astro is to just simply snapping

Specially in the 03 version. He just seemed constantly getting the raw end of the deal from humans.

A lot of them indeed.

Did you guys know that Tezuka himself got tired of the dramatic intensity of the 80s series? His project was to create a totally crazy parody of his own creation (much in the vein of Akira Toriyama's Dr.Slump), but the other porducers turned all his ideas down :d oh:. That's why the very few episodes of the series directed by Tezuka himself show a much more comical, less tragic approach to the Astro universe.
The 80s Astro mangas that Tezuka drew to promote the anime show how the series would have been had Tezuka been in real control of his creation (you, know the Jetter Mars issue and all that jazz. Everything goes)

So, here's another enemy for Astro: The executive producers!

About the car Nora spotted in Atlanta, that's what I call a nice tunning. Roll over, Michael Knight! Astro rulez.
