All in all it was an okay film, but I would not go as far to say that it made the orignal look "weak"! I'll take the orignal "Jason and the Argonauts" over anything being made today and that includes "Avatar" or the new "Clash of the Titans"!
(Maybe it would have been better if Astro Boy's baby brother Ti-tan was in it! Imagine Medusa trying to stop Ti-tan gone beserk!)
No No! I said it made the Kraken scene from the original look weak. I doubt if Harryhausen did in fact sculpt or animate that Kraken scene. It looks bad compared to his earlier work., almost Jack the Giant Killer bad. The Medusa is Harryhausen. The rest look like the work of students. There is no breath in that Kraken. The new one is better.[/QUOTE]
Harryhausen worked mostly alone on his projects and according to the Harryhausen Chronicles, he did sculpt the Kraken. He did have help on "Clash of the Titans" from Jim Danforth, who did some of the effects on "Jack the Giant Killer", one of my favorite fantasy films. And like I said I was not as impressed with the new film as you were, but I still enjoyed it. But just think if they can tag on 3D effects to other movies, like they did with this one after it was completed, imagine what they can do to some old 2D movie!
