Would Astro want to grow up?

It's a question that's puzzled many for decades, and made even some break into song!

2009 Astro (despite my mock picture XD) I'd say yes because he's experienced being human and might want to continue to live his life as one or inbetween as a robot.

2003 Astro...hm, maybe optional (I fully blame the awesome fic Growing Pains for that :d oh :)

1980 & 1960's, no since he seemed happy  .

But really, If Astro had the option of being able to grow up do you think he'd go for it? (This questions applys for all adaptations.)

in the Manga, he does mention that he doesn't want to grow up and is happy as he is. In fact, in that story his mind was placed in an adult body and he hated it

Wrehehe, 'traumatized' don't got no 's' in it.

But on topic, why would he WANT to grow up? Seriously - being a robot kid forever would rock! Well, at least I certainly wouldn't mind it... (I'm only 20 and I already feel old...*sigh*)

Also, he'd never have to file taxes. That right there is reason enough to never want to grow up.

I wonder if Uran (or Zoran which ever.) would want to grow up?

O_O... :whistling: I don't know what you're talking about!? Me? Bad spelling? NOOOOO!...*edits* :d oh:

I guess it would, I loved reading in the 2003 manga how Astro stated he'd stay in Metro City forever x3. I guess the reason I think what I do for the 2009 version is well...What would ever happen if he fell in love with a human?

...(suddenly feels awkward with sig below) I'm not a crazed fangirl as I seem, honest @_@

I have ALWAYS felt he'd want to grow up - it's logical following his other desires

This is the manga I'm dying to read, but OF COURSE -- it's out of print!. Dragonrider, can you share WHY he "hated" it?

ALittleAcorn -- THAT GRAPHIC IS UNBELIEVABLY FUNNY!!!!!! It's like the best thing yet! And of course I read all the small type -- the "Boom, Balloon, Baby" is great!

Okay -- this is one of my favorite Astro Boy topics. I feel he WOULD want to grow up, because everything within his robot existence points to him aspiring to be as "human" as possible (wanting "parents," enjoying having siblings, making friends his "own age"). I could picture him being at peace with his small stature and child's voice for an extended time -- but as he forges friendships with people, and he then watches them mature and marry and have children -- it's just logical that he would want to be able to share in that experience.

Perhaps if he's devoid of "feelings" of affection and is asexual (no desire that way) - then staying forever a child could be feasible -- but (from my main experience -- the 60's animation) he was attracted to girls/women (and vice versa) -- well - that NATURALLY leads to wanting to grow up.

He would also have many logical advantages in serving to make the world a better place as an adult. Beyond the fact that people would perceive him as a leader with greater assurance, Astro would be an adult against whom the rest of the world could compare themselves.

I thought the "Growing Pains" fan fiction was a fantastic proposed storyline for the maturing of Atom. In my mind Dr. Tenma/Boynton DID program the ability to grow up into Atom -- but it malfunctioned, and that's why he flipped out and disowned him.

I envisioned that either Tenma would finally come up with a "fix" for the "glitch" or something/somewhere would alter something within Atom to suddenly allow him to grow up (surviving some explosion, or exposure to something that changed him within). I was hoping this development - or something similar - existed, but I guess not.

That's probably British spelling -- I think LittleAcorn is from the UK (I listen to Classic FM all day at work, so I'm used to English accents and spellings:lol :) BTW - I LIKE THE TAX LOOPHOLE ANGLE!!
