I have a theory -- people who prefer the 1980 version (the younger Astro) probably don't "get" why some of us like him older. But if you watch the 1960's version, I think you'll see he's more grown up -- 10 or 11 years old as opposed to 7 or 8. That's a big difference for a child. The 80's Astro Boy is more chubby and cuddly (I can see why that would be something you wouldn't want to change!).

But (because of what I was first exposed to) he seems "too" young in the 80's version. I agree he is adorable, though -- to ME looks like he should be "Astro Boy, Jr." or something -- like his son.

But I guess your right... *sniffles.*
And I AM watching the 1960 version.
Hm, maybe I should stick to liking Black Jack.
BTW, Astro Boy 1980 is in my avatar and signature, with Uran...
EDIT: I need something funny, is going to watch Pokemon.

He was so young that he got annoying. *is once again hit with a can*
...
*wipes off blood* Tezuka continued to say that Astro was around 9, but he always seemed more like 10, like you say. In fact, I thought the 2003 series projected this the most accurately. Heck, even the English dub seemed spot on, even if they did remove his child-like moments..

ANY WHO, I completely agree with you on this one. Most people's experiences of Astro were from the 80's series, so the general opinion seems to be that he is a widdle adowable kid. *my cat just looked at me funny...huh* Even in the manga, he seemed more like 11 or even 12.

:astro: < I'm too old for this...aren't I?
:tenma: < I'll never tell! *hugs*

Poor Cora -- she can't help it!! Be nice, now. But here's something I noticed . . . the movie features a "battle" between red and blue "cores" and Astro's girl friend (not sure if she's really a girlfriend - more of a girl friend) is name CORA

Coincidence? Of all the names they could have chosen...CORa?

Oh, and one mo' thing -- Cora = "Ewok" of Astro Boy the movie

"AprilSeven" wrote:ALittleAcorn -- THAT GRAPHIC IS UNBELIEVABLY FUNNY!!!!!! It's like the best thing yet! And of course I read all the small type -- the "Boom, Balloon, Baby" is great!

I could picture him being at peace with his small stature and child's voice for an extended time -- but as he forges friendships with people, and he then watches them mature and marry and have children -- it's just logical that he would want to be able to share in that experience.

I thought the "Growing Pains" fan fiction was a fantastic proposed storyline for the maturing of Atom. In my mind Dr. Tenma/Boynton DID program the ability to grow up into Atom -- but it malfunctioned, and that's why he flipped out and disowned him.

I envisioned that either Tenma would finally come up with a "fix" for the "glitch" or something/somewhere would alter something within Atom to suddenly allow him to grow up (surviving some explosion, or exposure to something that changed him within). I was hoping this development - or something similar - existed, but I guess not.
Wrehehe, 'traumatized' don't got no 's' in it.

That's probably British spelling -- I think LittleAcorn is from the UK (I listen to Classic FM all day at work, so I'm used to English accents and spellings:lol :) BTW - I LIKE THE TAX LOOPHOLE ANGLE!!
....Shhhhh! I'm not British! >.>....v.v yes I am, but i try to write American, i'll need to note this. Z, not S. And Thank you, I was got gonna just have normal blah blah text in that book but I instantly got carried away lol.

Oh wow I think I love you! That's totally what I think exactly! Although I have to admit I only knew about the series from the movie, so my first experience with Astro Boy was his older self. If it'd been the other way around and i'd grown up with it maybe i might think differently. But if Astro is human with feelings, wouldn't that be almost instinctive to want to age?

Rationally you need to think though he might look like a boy, really inside he'd be a man, (The anime 'When they cry higurashi' is a good example')

I know, ah I just love that fic Growing Pains (I wish I could contact the author she's really inspired me to do a oneshot) It's kinda that idea of Astro growing up that has made me think of that question.

I agree so on the Tenma thing as well. x3 I could imagine 2009 Astro being given upgrades so he could in someway look like he'd grown. Seeing that in a sequel or series though, i dunno...just suits better in fanfic format to me lol XD imagine seeing an adult Astro in 'Astro Boy 3: Not again'

Lol aw come oooon Cora's not that bad. She's a lot stronger willed than most girls Astro's been hooked up with over the last 50 years

...Hey, he's been through a lot of girlfriends hasn't he? o_o

If you want want my opinion, especialy right now, I think that all grownups are all the same. They don't believe you, they don't understand you, even if they've been through the same stuff as a teen, and most are control freaks, and if you make one mistake, you get in trouble. I don't wanna evolve into that. I think all grown ups are stupid.
You're not a joke, you fit right in!
So shake it off, and give a grin. Don't be afraid to stand your ground! Crazy, noisy BIZARRE Town!
