Olympic Games

Postby Astro Forever » 13 years ago

Am I the only one who loves watching them???

Which sports do you like most? I love diving and gymnastics very much, but I can find a variety of sport very interesting! What I like about sports is that there is always a winner, somebody to be happy for! :D Of course my favorites may not always win, but I respect the work of these athletes so much that I am unable to not be happy for those who have performed well (whether they made the podium or not)! :)

I wish I could have seen the bad badminton matches! Apparently there were games in which both teams were trying to lose and it was terribly obvious, because they were trying to avoid meeting a strong team later, and they got disqualified.

Since the Beijing Olympics, I do like to watch the Olympics. I am not glued to every event all the time, but they are interesting to watch when I turn on the TV.

I have mainly been watching the main channel for the Olympics (there are five channels I could watch events on, with two of those dedicated to basketball and soccer) with the swimming and other water-based events. I have also watched the gymnastics, rowing, archery, volleyball, and a little of the kayaking events. It's amazing to see the talent of those individuals from all 204 countries perform with the skills and dedication they have for whatever event they're in.

Also, the badminton were pretty bad (oh, the irony in that statement :lol :) . I saw a clip online of it. It was pretty disgusting to look at the competitors take advantage of the system like they did.

Not so much interested in all sports, and with all sports on tv before the Olympics i can't care that much anymore if the Olympic soccer team of the Netherlands had actually made it i would watch to that that's the only thing i'm really following.
But that soccer competition in the Olympics doesn't really get taken seriously compared to other sports where this tourlement is about the biggest thing cuess i could still watch the hockey matches since where quite good at that and might even win as almost always :D .

I LOOOOVE watching the Olympics, but in the US, it's extremely frustrating, because the coverage is so limited and edited to pieces (kind of like Astro Boy anime!!).

So far I've seen parts of cycling (LOVE cycling and YAY for Bradly Wiggins!), rowing, diving, swimming and as much of the gymnastics I can catch (I can't believe the way they have "glamorized" the USA girls with all the makeup. It's not enough they are incredible athletes, but they also must look like they stepped out of cosmetics commercial! :shifty :) . I LOVE Gabby - she's such a little dynamo (and her mom is so cute, cheering her on!).

I kind of prefer the winter Olympics, but truly I love them both - and I also used to LOVE IT when you had both summer and winter games in the same year (even though there was a longer wait between games).

BTW I know there is a way to watch the games but you have to have a cable TV subscription that includes MSNBC or one other station, and I have only minimal service, so I don't have the required stations and therefore don't qualify to watch the other competitions. :(

Yes, apparently field hockey can be really exciting, but that sport doesn't get much airtime here (if any).

NBC is definitely frustrating. Can't comment on other US channels because this is the only one I get, but I can't believe how they are dragging some sports throughout the whole evening! One has to be some kind of marathonian to remain watching until midnight, work the next day and then do it again the following evening...? :o hmy:

Other than that, in between two French and two English channels + NBC, I get to watch a lot if I choose to (and can!), and since the channels don't all focus on the same athletes/countries, I get to watch more.

Can you believe that less than a year ago, Douglas was still struggling with her nerves in competition and was 7th at her national championship? She did make the world team a few months later and did well, but it was a very long time ago that an Olympic all-around medalist had not even won an individual world championships medal previously! :o hmy:

True, gymnastics (and figure skating!) put way too much emphasis on the look. Gymnasts at that level have always wore makeup, but it does seem more pronounced now.
