Yes, apparently field hockey can be really exciting, but that sport doesn't get much airtime here (if any).

NBC is definitely frustrating. Can't comment on other US channels because this is the only one I get, but I can't believe how they are dragging some sports throughout the whole evening! One has to be some kind of marathonian to remain watching until midnight, work the next day and then do it again the following evening...?

Other than that, in between two French and two English channels + NBC, I get to watch a lot if I choose to (and can!), and since the channels don't all focus on the same athletes/countries, I get to watch more.
So far I've seen parts of cycling (LOVE cycling and YAY for Bradly Wiggins!), rowing, diving, swimming and as much of the gymnastics I can catch (I can't believe the way they have "glamorized" the USA girls with all the makeup. It's not enough they are incredible athletes, but they also must look like they stepped out of cosmetics commercial! :shifty

. I LOVE Gabby - she's such a little dynamo (and her mom is so cute, cheering her on!).
Can you believe that less than a year ago, Douglas was still struggling with her nerves in competition and was 7th at her national championship? She did make the world team a few months later and did well, but it was a very long time ago that an Olympic all-around medalist had not even won an individual world championships medal previously!

True, gymnastics (and figure skating!) put way too much emphasis on the look.

Gymnasts at that level have always wore makeup, but it does seem more pronounced now.
