I agree, it's impossible to optimize those files. You'd think, being it black and white, that they'd be smaller files, but nope! Of course, all the loops, while not a sign of high quality to our eyes 40 years later, make it a great, great source for animated gifs! :D However I think the ultimate cartoon when it comes to animated gif has to be La Linea! :p

I would have preferred it too, but it's impossible to do, it would have to be a still shot. As DrFrag said, the background keeps moving. As for this one, I could make it bigger by cropping Astro... is that what you'd want?

It could be possible to capture 1 frame of the outer space, then insert it into each frame of the current GIF. It would require lot of work though...

Oh yes, I'm sure it would be possible. However, considering the many frames required to create such an animation, even if I were to try, I doubt the result would be that good.
