I have made it to 33 (almost 34 now.. sheesh) and so far have managed to restrain my inner otaku from getting too interested in the J-Pop side of things. The only j-music that interested me was the song from the PS2 game KINGDOM HEARTS. I REALLY liked that song. Outside that, unless it is an OP or an ED for an anime I don't really pay much attention. To be honest, most OPs and EDs I skip over after hearing them once.

Does anyone remember a movie they played a few tims on SBS a fair few years ago now called TOKYO POP? It was all about how the pop music industry worked over there. The main focus was on a j-rock band loking for their "gimmick" or their hook. SOmething that ould make them different or stand out. They happened across a Gaijin who was kawaii and could sing, so they asked her to join their band. It was a REALLY good little movie and had a lot of "learning" in it. Almost had a pseudo-documentary feel to some parts of it.

The only other interesting piece of trivia Ican add is the new PS2 action game "Bujingai" actually stars the gender bending j-pop icon GACKT. Seriously.. that dude is pretty AND can kick ass :)
Have to get that game if it ever falls to an affordable price.
three and a half years.. for what?

I understand your anger towards Japan right now, in light of what the government there did recently about covering up the attrocities by the Japanese military in China during World War 2.

But that's Japanese politics. I think almost every contries' politics sucks now a days, including mine(America). There's some jerk in Alabama trying to ban tons of books, evan Shakespear, just because he thinks they're gay.

Anyway, I was talking about Japanese pop-culture, like anime, manga, and of course j-pop from the 50's to today. I also like Chinese pop culture, especially from the 60's, like Nancy Sit, and Rita Chao from Hong Kong. Here's one reason why I collect the pop-culture of Asia:

You see, nothing evil in breaking down borders. To me Asian pop culture is the counterpart to American pop culture and America should get into it as Asia is with American pop culture. Look what happened in the 60's when the Beatles took the world by storm. They broke down alot of borders without firing a shot, with the same message of love that Tezuka preached.
True art knows no borders. ;)

Hey Danny, congrats on the big 33. I'm 38 myself. Sorry about the fight we had a while back. :D I hope we can still be friends. ;)

I've seen the soundtrack to Kingdom Hearts, nice cover. I was tempted to buy it, but I was afraid it would be just a bunch of video game music. Didn't know there was any J-pop on it. maybe next time I'll buy it. I've got the Astro ps2 game soundtrack, it's cool. Nice J-pop intrumental at the end, ROCKS!

I quite like Rip Slyme after hearing their excellent opening theme to Gantz, B) then I saw them on Adam and Joe Go Tokyo and they were just as good.
Other than that, the only thing I've listened to much is the Astrobot 1980 OST. Which I can't find at the moment. :(

It could maybe faintly related to the topic but nonetheless this is japanese music.

Does anyone has the guitar chords of True Blue by ZONE. This song is the first entrance song of the 2003 series.

No. I like because behavior in World War 2 of Japan Japan is not no, so, I have not used " Hatred " . Japan to the invasion of China from 1890 to 1945 , can let Chinese hate Japan forever , but this is not the reason that I do not like Japan. I like the American film, but does not like the American country music , rock music. Except ASTROBOY, there is no thing making me like in Japan.

Hey all, Here's some highly recomended cds I got recentely:

http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?K...?KEY=TOCT-24987
This is one of the most awesome Astro cds ever. It has 12 remixes of Astro songs from the 60's in various music styles: Techo, jazz, 60's style a-go-go dance music, and evan chamber music. The cd starts out with a luluby version of the theme song sung in Chinese by Zhang Jia-Bei. It also has sound effects from the show and Atom's voice.
It also comes with a mini comic of Astro.

http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?K...?KEY=TOCT-11002
This one has 18 tracks of various 60's anime theme songs including Astro(Tetsuwan Atomu), Princess Knight(Ribbon no Kishi), Speed Racer(Mach Go Go Go) and a whole lot of shows I don't know. This Princess Knight theme is a rare version because it has her narating about herself during the intro to the song. The Speed Racer theme is evan rarer(well in America anyway), because it's sung in Japanese. It's the same melody as in English, but the orchestration and the words are different, but you can still sing along in English and it still fits.

http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?K...?KEY=COCX-33161
This one is for another Tezuka classic: Kimba the White Lion(Jungle Emperor Leo)
It's composed by the legendary Isao Tomita who later did the soundtrack to Princess Knight.
This vary soundtrack set the standard in which anime scores should sound, but not many have come as close to this level of beauty. It evan blew away the American execs at NBC, so they left most intact for dubbing. It's beautifully ochestrated and the songs vary in moods from comedy  to meloncony :) to tragedy  . It has Kimba's voice who later did the voice for Princess Knight. I love this one. :)

So try them out if you can, they're worth the money.
